My writing on theatre, visual art, literature, film, and music has appeared in The New Yorker, The Financial Times, The New York Times Book Review, The Irish Times, Artforum, The Times Literary Supplement, The Weekend Australian Review, Kinfolk, and Mastermind, among other publications. An editor at large for The Brooklyn Rail, I write regularly on architecture and design for Harvard Design Magazine and on opera for Opera News. I have contributed to The Touch: Spaces Designed for the Senses (gestalten 2019), Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen’s The Reinvention of Forms (Étui Editions 2020), programs at La Monnaie opera house (Brussels), The State of Housing Design 2023 (Harvard University’s Joint Center for Housing Studies), and a monograph on the artist Anish Kapoor for the Bangkok Art Biennale in 2020. My work has been translated into six languages.

At the Brooklyn Public Library, I co-curate LitFilm, an annual film festival which focuses on documentaries about writers.

As a freelance editor and fact checker, I have worked with Harper's Magazine, Archipelago Books, PEN America, and other organizations.

A graduate of Columbia University, I have been a member of the editorial staffs of The New York Review of Books, The Paris Review, and The Criterion Collection. From 2016–2020, I was a member of Words Without Borders’ Young Publishers Committee.
